I adore those writing-epiphany moments where you're struggling with this epically difficult scene and it's like a lightbulb goes off.

I've been going about it all wrong. It can't be like what I imagined, because it's not nearly the same stakes or tone! What worked before doesn't have to now - that's why it felt so flat!

I'm writing a FFXIII fic where Snow is baking a cake to lift Serah's spirits (I don't even know, either, this guy has a mind of his own) and I originally wanted to title the fic, 'A Cake Filled With Rainbows and Smiles' as a reference to the memetastic line in the movie Mean Girls.

Every time I catch an episode of Xena as it runs on repeat of a weekly afternoon (so with my current job, never) I am reminded very forcefully of why Xena/Gabrielle is the Kirk/Spock of femslash - or altfic, if you will.
